Fewer integrations, more markets: JCB Card-On-File tokens is here

Nate Morgan

Senior Director, Visa

Visa Acceptance Solutions has expanded its Token Management Service to support JCB Card-on-File network tokens, extending network tokenization access beyond global schemes. Through Token Management Service, merchants, acquirers and financial institutions, ISVs, and technology partners can access JCB network tokens alongside other supported global network tokens through a single integration.

The addition of JCB reflects a broader shift in tokenization as domestic schemes expand their capabilities. Payment optimization is no longer simply about tokenizing more cards—it’s about building a strategy that can support global and regional networks.

Why integration complexity can affect your business

Domestic payment schemes play an important role in local commerce. For partners operating across markets, supporting these schemes has traditionally required separate connections, APIs, certifications and operational processes.

Every additional network integration can introduce:

  • Development effort
  • Testing and certification requirements
  • Ongoing maintenance
  • Operational monitoring
  • Lifecycle management considerations

These requirements can add up quickly and compete with limited resources that could support other growth priorities.

That has led many payment leaders to ask a more specific question: How can we expand our network tokenization coverage without adding a separate integration for every network, scheme, or provider?

A shift toward unified tokenization access

Token Management Service addresses that challenge through a gateway-agnostic API framework, providing one connection that works the same way regardless of the gateway behind it. Partners can access multiple supported network token services without building a separate direct connection for each network.

Support for JCB Card-on-File network tokens marks Token Management Service’s first integration with a domestic scheme. Its broader significance, however, goes beyond a single scheme.

Network tokens can help merchants improve authorization performance, strengthen credential trust, simplify lifecycle management, and support new and innovative commerce experiences. Adding JCB extends access to these benefits across another important payment ecosystem.

Partners that simplify their access to global and domestic token ecosystems can be better positioned to:

  • Support regional payment preferences
  • Reduce their operational complexity
  • Improve credential performance
  • Expand into new markets faster

Scaling with greater simplicity

The value of this approach reaches across the entire payments ecosystem.

For acquirers and financial institutions, Token Management Service offers one connection to supported network token services across markets. For ISVs and technology partners, the same connection can support broader network coverage as the platform expands. For merchants, broader access to network tokenization can help support their customers’ regional payment preferences and their expansion into new markets.
